How long ago did you place dental implants?
I had my dental implants done at Smile and Holiday Clinic in Fethiye about nine months ago. I have been living with my two dental implants for nine months. I am very satisfied with my dental implants. Before, I had a hard time with my old teeth. My teeth were pulled years ago due to cavities. After that, I started to have problems with eating and speaking. As I got older, my missing teeth lowered my self-confidence. That’s why I decided to consult a dentist.
How did you decide to come to a dental clinic in Turkey?
My financial situation was quite limited for such a great treatment. So I started to consider alternatives outside of Europe. I researched on the internet. It was very important for me to get good treatment service, and as a result, my pursuits brought me to Turkey. I heard that the medical sector in Turkey is very high quality. Did you feel pain during the dental implant procedure?
Before I had my dental implants, I was very afraid of the pain I would suffer during the treatment. But Smile and Holiday’s dentists made me feel minimal pain. During the treatment, I only felt slight discomfort when the nails were placed on my jawbone. In addition, the painkillers my dentists gave me allowed me to skip the process comfortably. It wasn’t as difficult as I had feared.
Did you feel any discomfort or pain after the dental implants were placed?
I felt slight discomfort when it took for the placed nails to fuse with my jawbone, but my dentists warned me about this. I used painkillers and thus got rid of these ailments. After my dental implants were well placed on my jawbone, I felt no pain or discomfort. It was great that my doctors at the Smile and Holiday clinic informed me in detail about the process.
Have you noticed any changes in the fit or feel of dental implants?
No, I didn’t feel it. They felt very close to my natural teeth. I’ve been living with missing teeth for a long time. That’s why I couldn’t get used to it at first, but after years, I was very happy that my teeth were full and strong. There was no problem with the colour match between my teeth and dental implants. My doctors were relieved about this before coming here. If I had a colour mismatch, it would upset me and affect my self-confidence.
Have you had any chewing or biting problems since the dental implants were placed?
No, on the contrary, I can eat properly for the first time in years. My teeth are very strong now. I had already decided to have dental implants and complete my missing teeth because of the loss of my ability to speak and eat. Now I can chew as I want.
Have you noticed any sensitivity or pain to hot or cold food/drinks after dental implants are placed?
I felt it for the first few weeks, but it wasn’t unbearable. My doctor had already warned me about this type of sensitivity. After my dental implants were completely placed, I did not experience such sensitivity anyway. The important process is this initial fusion time to the jaw. After getting past that, all that’s left is to enjoy my beautiful smile.
How do you care for my dental implants after the procedure?
In the first weeks, I did not consume hot and cold foods so that I do not have sensitivity complaints. Afterwards, after I started living with my dental implants, I continued my normal routine with my normal teeth. Dental implants do not need any special care. Just like my natural teeth, I brush my teeth regularly and use dental floss. My doctor also suggested that I use mouthwash to protect my general oral health. I also started using mouthwash with his suggestion. But it’s about my overall oral health, not just my dental implants.
Have you noticed any inflammation, redness or swelling of the gums around dental implants?
No, none of this happened during my recovery. I had a pretty easy process. After the effects of the painkillers wore off, I had some pain, but I think this is normal. But there was no redness, swelling or inflammation. My dentist warned me about all of this, though. He told me to contact him immediately if I had such a complaint. The first week I tried to contact him about my pain complaint; it was easy and put me at ease. As I said, it was not unbearable pain, but one can be more nervous in such sensitive periods. Being able to contact my dentist easily is a good point, in my opinion.
What is the healing time of dental implants?
It took 2 months for my chin to fuse with my dental implants. Then my dental crowns were placed. It took a total of 2 more months for all of these to heal and return to normal. I lived a very healthy life during this recovery, but getting used to my dental implants still took time. Now I eat and talk like it’s all my teeth.
How long after dental implant surgery were you able to eat?
For the first 2 weeks, I only consumed liquid. Including soups in liquids. After that, I slowly started to return to my normal eating routine. After about 1.5 months, I started to eat whatever I wanted. My dental implants motivate me to eat because I had a hard time eating certain food before I had a dental implant treatment, especially meats. But now I don’t have such a problem.
